The Canadian Women’s Health Network is seeking an individual with experience in national bilingual media relations and communications programming for a full-time, five-month term position, Oct. 29, 2007 – March 31, 2008 with intention of extension for seven additional months to October 31, 2008 pending renewal of funding in April 2008.

The successful candidate will be expected to coordinate our national bilingual media relations strategy, including the preparation and editing of press releases, editorials, and articles for a variety of media; editing of one issue of our magazine, Network; and writing and editing of a range of promotional and
policy materials. The position also entails regular networking and public relations with Canada’s women’s and health organizations as well as support to knowledge transfer events. The Director of Communications works closely with health researchers across the country and with a national women’s health policy research programme.

Youth Mental Health Research Project Coordinator
2 year, casual part-time contract

The LSB Faculty of Nursing at the University of Toronto (UofT) and Access Alliance Multicultural Community Health  Centre (AAMCHC) are collaborating on a two year community based research project exploring the mental health of newcomer youth and their families.  The co-applicants, Dr. Nazilla Khanlou (UofT) and Ms. Sonja Nerad (AAMCHC), hope that this research will inform strategies and policies for mental health services and mental health promotion of newcomer.  More specifically the study will explore:
* how Afghani, Columbian, Sudanese, and Tamil newcomer youth understand and conceptualize mental health and mental illness
* mental health needs and help-seeking behaviours of newcomer youth
* access and barriers to community-based mental health services

POSITION TITLE: Program Director
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
DETAILS: Full-time, $32,000 – $35,000/year plus benefits (depending on experience and qualifications)

For Youth Initiative (FYI) is a by-youth-for-youth, charitable organization that works primarily in the former City of York and parts of Etobicoke. FYI has five main programming streams: life skills, recreation, community development, cultural production, and female-specific programming. Overall, FYI aims to encourage civic engagement and increase access to educational, recreational, economical and cultural opportunities for youth. FYI is a United Way Member agency.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Program Director is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of programs at FYI. This includes the development, implementation and evaluation of programs, as well as the planning and monitoring of program budgets. In addition, this position is responsible for ensuring that supervision, support and training are provided to all program staff. The Program Director will take a lead in outreaching to the community, and will actively participate in organizational development, planning and evaluation.

 Position:  Tweens Program Facilitator (Part-time)    Department: Youth Centre

Job Summary:  Responsible for planning, managing and implementing a grade 7 and 8 program in four schools in Malvern.

Roles & Responsibilities

Program and Supervision:
* Develop and implement an after school program to meet the needs of students in grades 7 and 8.
* Lead the team of staff offering programs to the tweens, and assist them in addressing concerns within the program.
* Facilitate discussion groups and leadership development among the youth.
* Arrange recreational activities for youth in the program.
* Ensure that the program is run effectively with adequate resources (consult to After-school Coordinator when necessary).
* Ensure that the space being used is clean and tidy after each program.
* Oversee and mentor a youth group to complete an annual youth project at each of the two schools
* Provide information, referrals and mentoring at individual and group levels
* Assist with other duties as required or as assigned.

Position: Youth Department Site Supervisor
Full-time (1 year maternity-leave contract)

Responsibilities
* Plan, co-ordinate and oversee all youth programs, summer camp and after-school programs.
* Work with all youth staff to ensure that individual program plans are in place and programs are delivered as planned.
* Develop and implement an outreach plan with youth staff, (alongside the Youth Manager) to promote the program and recruit participants.
* Develop links, liaise, and network with the local schools, community agencies, Parks & Recreation, workshop places, police, the mall and plazas within the Malvern community.
* Consult with the other youth staff at regular team meetings to review the quality of programs provided and to resolve any problems that arise.
* Ensure there are adequate resources, space and supplies to maintain the high quality of programs.

Scarborough CARES (Community, Art, Recreation and Education Services) is an interagency collaborative project established to demonstrate a vision of integrated and school aged services for families and children in Scarborough. The CARES project is a mobile program for underserved communities. It will provide after-school Digital Arts and Homework/Special Interest Programs to enrich children’s lives. It will include parenting workshops and information sessions to build connections to community school age resources. The project will also promote cross-sector partnerships and develop the interest and support of the business community. This is a four year project with funding support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
