What is Hook Me Up about anyway?

Well I started Hook Me Up back in 2000. It began as a small e-mail list that I sent to a select group of friends, based on the simple principle of paying it forward.

I’d often have friends share things with me like:
Cool events, box seats at Raptors games, free puppies, free movie tickets, community news, Jobs, discount coupons, sales even great apartments at unbelievable prices. I also had a lot of other friends asking me things like:
“Whats up this weekend”? or “Where can I find a good used car?” or “I am looking for a new job, if you hear of anything hook me up”
It made sense to me to share what I knew, and connect people.

So I started a very small email group of five people and I called it my “Hook Me Up List”. Well it was about six months after I started sharing things with everyone that something tipped, and people in the group started giving back, and new people were asking to join the list every day.

People started sharing everything from jobs, tickets, free puppies, and movie passes to great restaurants, community events and news stories..
We even had someone request a baby… Yes they wanted to adopt a baby!!!
I could not believe it, I was amazed.

Over time the list grew and I harnessed the power of the web and put everything on-line (blog) to open it up so good people can connect with great opportunities

Its been 8 years now and that small e-mail list of five friends has grown to hundreds of members, a blog that gets over 30′000 hits per month, and now have a facebook group. ( search for “Hook me Up” on facebook)

I like to think of Hook Me Up as a community of friends that help each other – I think a part of all of us wants to feel connected to others.
