Scarborough CARES (Community, Art, Recreation and Education Services) is an interagency collaborative project established to demonstrate a vision of integrated and school aged services for families and children in Scarborough. The CARES project is a mobile program for underserved communities. It will provide after-school Digital Arts and Homework/Special Interest Programs to enrich children’s lives. It will include parenting workshops and information sessions to build connections to community school age resources. The project will also promote cross-sector partnerships and develop the interest and support of the business community. This is a four year project with funding support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

Job Function

The C.A.R.E.S Program Coordinator will be responsible for the start-up and operation of the project including program planning and development, marketing, compliance with organizational policies, on-going project evaluation and community relations with a broad range of stakeholders including consumers, funders and other community service providers.

This position is accountable to the Management Committee of the Scarborough C.A.R.E.S. Project. This position is a part-time position 20 hours per week.

Duties & Responsibilities
* Oversee development and start-up phase of the Scarborough C.A.R.E.S. Project.
* Manage project to ensure the objectives and work plan of the project are achieved by providing coordination leadership, support and direction, and program planning and evaluation.
* Direct involvement in program implementation.
* Ensure compliance with operating policies and procedures of partner organizations.
* Organizes and supports the Management Committee and other ad hoc committees in order to ensure broad-based participation and effectiveness.
* Acts as liaison to a broad range of stakeholders including, but not limited to the community, consumers, funders and other community service providers.
* Participates in the development and implementation of a process for on-going consumer input into the project (service/exit evaluations).
* Facilitates access to CARES services, i.e. registration, information and referral to families with children 6-12 years, and promotes participation in the project.
* Coordinates volunteers and students throughout the project and ensures a program of support and training to them.
* Engages in training and education to upgrade skills to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
* Oversee and responsibility for on-site program set up and take down.

* Provides administrative functions for the program, including monitoring budget accounts within the project’s administrative policies and procedures, developing communication materials, ensuring confidential information is stored appropriately.
* Responsible for confidentiality of all information related to children, parents, staff.
* Promotes community awareness of the project and the importance of children’s development in the formative years through special events and/or viewings.

The Project Coordinator is accountable to the Management Committee of the Scarborough C.A.R.E.S. Project. Performance will be evaluated according to the performance evaluation procedure set by the Management Committee.

The Project Coordinator will act as the team leader and coordinator of all staff working within the project. They will provide direct supervision to any project volunteers and students and any staff hired by the project.
Front-line staff will report directly to their respective agencies (SAC, East or West Scarborough Boys & Girls Club) under existing management structures.

The ideal candidate would possess:
* E.C.E., Recreation & Leisure, CYW, SSW or related diploma/certificate
* Artistic and/or technical abilities
* Valid CPR/First Aid Certificate, demonstrated leadership ability
* Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others
* Demonstrated community relationship and community development skills
* Training in crisis management
* Demonstrated ability to provide work direction to volunteers
* Ability to maintain neat and accurate records and prepare/present reports
* Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with children, parents, staff, teachers, the public, outside agencies, funders, regulators
* Experience in monitoring budgets and handling routine financial transactions
* Willingness to work flexible hours
* Ability to work independently, be innovative and show initiative
* Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
