 Position:  Tweens Program Facilitator (Part-time)    Department: Youth Centre

Job Summary:  Responsible for planning, managing and implementing a grade 7 and 8 program in four schools in Malvern.

Roles & Responsibilities

Program and Supervision:
* Develop and implement an after school program to meet the needs of students in grades 7 and 8.
* Lead the team of staff offering programs to the tweens, and assist them in addressing concerns within the program.
* Facilitate discussion groups and leadership development among the youth.
* Arrange recreational activities for youth in the program.
* Ensure that the program is run effectively with adequate resources (consult to After-school Coordinator when necessary).
* Ensure that the space being used is clean and tidy after each program.
* Oversee and mentor a youth group to complete an annual youth project at each of the two schools
* Provide information, referrals and mentoring at individual and group levels
* Assist with other duties as required or as assigned.

Direct Outreach

* Reach out to youth in grades 7 and 8 directly and with the help of school staff and encourage them to attend program.
* Encourage initiatives devised and developed by the youth to foster youth development and youth leadership.
* Develop and implements an outreach plan to promote the program and recruit participants.

Administration

* Keep daily statistics on program attendance.
* Provide written reports and program statistics for the program on a monthly basis.
* Assist with other duties as required or as assigned.
* Work closely with volunteers and encourage them to be apart of the staff team.

Impact of Errors
Major errors can occur in the following areas indicating the worst consequences, which could be detrimental to our public image.  Due Care is therefore required.
* Program:    Incorrect information given to clients and the media.
* Administration:   Diplomacy and cultural sensitivity.
* Liability:   Potential Corporate Liability. Injury to a child during your program due to improper or lack of supervision.

Skills, Education, Experience and other Requirements

* Experience or education in social service or community development particularly in the area of  Youth Development
* Understanding of youth and family issues affecting youth.
* Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
* Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
* Experience in program development and implementation.
* Demonstrated ability to work in a team setting.
* Strong ability to work with and relate to diverse groups.
* Good working knowledge of computers and appropriate software
* Valid Driver’s License with access to a car.
* Commitment to anti-racism and non-discrimination practises.
* Demonstrated ability to manage multiple deadlines.

On the Job Training
3 months to achieve competency.

Accountability
The Youth Program Facilitators are accountable to the After-school Coordinator of the Youth Centre.

Working Environment
* Good working environment
* Works with interruptions in a busy Centre.
* Must abide with Malvern Family Resource Centre’s Policies and Procedures

Job responsibilities are subject to change under the direction or assignment of the Youth Manager and Executive Director, in consultation with the Board of Directors
